Designed as a satellite station for the Nanaimo Fire Rescue, this hall combines “off the shelf” technology to achieve a LEED silver standard. With living/operational quarters for career firefighters and space to accommodate auxiliary fire team members, the design intent of this station was to combine the history of the local “Finnish agrarian community” with a contemporary aesthetic. Siting focused on using the existing grade to minimize the amount of excavation and to integrate agrarian field approach with the storm water management strategies.
