This satellite station incorporates the same concepts of sustainable architecture as its sister station, the Hamilton Firehall, giving the Richmond Fire Department a consistent architectural identity. Further enforcing that idea, is the use of similar materials and planning concepts, which combined with the unique curved roof forms reminiscent of the nearby airfields. The design team was extremely sensitive to reducing the impact of the development on the neighboring community and sited the building along with its training yard, outside the natural treed buffer which separates Russ Baker Way from the residential community of Burkeville. This move was accompanied by the creation of a crucial pedestrian link which helps maintain the close community ties between the Fire Department and the people they serve.
